Song of Gomer
Don’t know what he sees in me
He is spirit, he is free
And I, the wife of adultery
Gomer is my name.
Simply more than I can see
How he keeps on forgiving me;
How he keeps his sanity
Hosea, you’re a fool.
Chorus:
A fool to love someone like me,
A fool to suffer silently;
Though sometimes through your eyes I see
I’d rather be a fool.
The fondness of a father,
The passion of a child;
The tenderness of a loving friend
An understanding smile.
All of this and so much more,
You’ve lavished on a faithless whore
I’ve never known love like this before
Hosea, you’re a fool.
Chorus:
A fool to love someone like me,
A fool to suffer silently;
Though sometimes through your eyes I see
I’d rather be a fool.
Bridge:
This God of yours would not have told
To lift a love that you couldn’t hold;
And though time and time again I flee,
I’m always glad to see you coming after … Read More »
When Blessings Hurt
I went to my 4th T4G Conference this week in Louisville, KY. Every two years this pastor’s conference takes place and I have been to all four. The conference is very large and well-planned and this year was especially powerful from the seat I was sitting in.
By the time of arrival, I had decided I did not want to be there, had no excitement about the conference (unlike as in years past) and was looking forward to nothing…from a positive perspective. (Don’t ask why. In light of eternity it matters little – sooo little.) Then, the conference happened.
CJ Mahaney starts off with a message, “The Sustaining Power of the Gospel” from 2 Corinthians 4 which begins with, Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart. Oh well, it went downhill from there. Each sermon … Read More »
Are We Reformed?
The following questions have been asked from time to time here at GotA:
Are we a Reformed Church?
Are we a “Five Points” church?
Do we believe the Doctrines of Grace?
All three of these questions are really the same question and here is our attempt to answer it:
Our first response to this question is to clarify exactly who is meant by “we”. If, by “we”, we mean Grace on the Ashley, as a church, the simple answer is, “No.” A quick look at our website reveals our statement of faith and other statements which make it very clear that Grace on the Ashley is not defined specifically as a “Reformed” church. We have members who are Arminian in their theology as well as others who are Calvinists. Where you stand on these two very different theologies is not a requirement of membership. Where … Read More »

Introduction to ACTS…
Last Sunday morning we introduced the next book we will be studying verse-by-verse…ACTS. For those of you who were not able to be there, and for those of you who were there and still want the notes, you can click on the links below and download an outline of the book and an abridged version of Pastor Greg’s preaching notes, which gives you much of the content that we covered. These will prove to be very helpful reference tools for you as we make our way through Acts. We wait with anxious anticipation to see how God is going to grow us and stretch us through this study!

Questions for 2012
I closed out yesterday’s message with the following list of questions. I have had these questions so long that I don’t remember where they came from but they did not originate with me. They have been helpful to me over the years and I hope so to you this year.
The beginning of a new year is an ideal time to stop, look up and get our bearings. For starters, here are 10 questions to ask prayerfully in the presence of God:
What’s one thing you could do this year to increase your enjoyment of God?
What’s the most humanly impossible thing you will ask God to do this year?
What’s the single most important thing you could do to improve the quality of your family life this year?
In which spiritual discipline do you most want to make progress this year, and what will you … Read More »
Let The Blogging Begin…
I guess it was inevitable. It is 2012, after all, and everyone else is doing it…
We have decided to dive into the wonderful world of blogging. Now I know what you must be thinking. “Isn’t a 50 minute sermon on Sunday mornings, a Corporate Prayer Time on Sunday nights, and a Wednesday night bible study enough opportunity for you to get all your thoughts out in a week?” To be honest, on most weeks it is. However, there is that odd week every once in a while where we actually have something thoughtful, intelligent (could be challenged), perhaps even profound to say in between Sundays and Wednesday. So, for such a time as this, we have launched this blog.
Here, you will occasionally find nuggets of wisdom, random musings, sermon points we ran out of time to talk about, our thoughts … Read More »
